Demolition of Long-Abandoned Tri-City Hospital Underway

After more than two decades of abandonment and legal proceedings, the City of Dallas is moving forward with the long-anticipated demolition of the former Tri-City Hospital, located at 7525 Scyene Road in District 5.

The demolition began on July 15, 2025, and is expected to take about 8 weeks to complete, weather permitting.

Background:

Vacant since 2002, the Tri-City Hospital property had become a chronic public safety hazard and was officially designated a habitual nuisance. In 2017, the City of Dallas filed a lawsuit seeking to abate extensive code and fire violations. In 2019, the Municipal Court appointed a receiver to assume control of the property. A deed transfer occurred in 2020, but the new owner failed to meet the required conditions.

Despite ongoing efforts by the City to work with the owner, violations persisted. In February 2025, the City filed for the appointment of a new receiver. In May 2025, the court granted an order for full demolition of the structure.

The scheduled demolition marks a critical step in eliminating a longstanding danger and blight on the surrounding community and will create opportunities for safe redevelopment in the area.
