WIC teams with Master Gardeners for salsa garden project

The Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Program recently teamed up with Texas Master Gardeners and the Texas Discovery Gardens at Fair Park to present a container gardening project for WIC participants.

The Master gardeners trained WIC staff and the Texas Discovery Gardens started more than 2,000 plants from seed for the project. Salsa gardens of cherry tomatoes, jalapeno peppers, green onions and cilantro are being grown in shopping bags. A total of 519 WIC participants took the class, called Growing Healthy Eaters and had a great experience. The class will also offered in June.
