Road closures announced for Oct. 6 Mavs 5K Run
The Dallas Mavericks will kick off basketball season by hosting the Mavs Run This Town 5K from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Thursday Oct. 6. The run will start and finish at the American Airlines Center beginning at 7 p.m. with a post event celebration at AT&T Plaza.
The City of Dallas has approved the following road closures for the event:
- 5K ROUTE: The 5K will start at 7 p.m. on Olive St. at Houston St., make a left on Houston St. in southbound lanes, left on Victory Ave. W. using all lanes onto Hi Line Dr., U-turn at the Trinity Strand Trail to return east on High Line Dr., right on Oak Lawn Ave. in eastbound lane (with eastbound traffic coned into the center turn lane), left on Dragon St., left on Howell St., left on Slocum St., right on Hi Line Dr., veers right onto Victory Ave., left on Olive St. where it will finish and disperse.
- LANE CLOSURES INCLUDE: Olive St. – 3 westbound lanes closed (leaving 3 eastbound lanes open for through traffic); Houston St. – all southbound lanes closed (leaving 1 northbound lane open for through traffic); Hi Line Dr. – 2 lanes in each direction closed, temporarily closing street to traffic during run; Oak Lawn Ave. – all north/eastbound lanes closed (center turn lane coned to allow north/eastbound traffic to flow; Dragon Street – 1 lane each direction closed, temporarily closing street to traffic during run; Howell St. – 1 lane each direction closed, temporarily closing street during run; Slocum St. – 1 lane each direction closed, temporarily closing street during run; Victory Ave. – all northbound lanes closed (leaving 1 southbound lane open for through traffic).
- Please note that multiple streets will have limited access after 6 p.m. Once the race starts at 7 p.m., the red highlighted streets will be moderately inaccessible until 8 p.m.
A comprehensive traffic plan has been developed by the Dallas Police Department in conjunction with the walk organizers in an effort to minimize traffic interruptions. Dallas Police Department will work traffic through the route as necessary and roads will reopen as the race passes each intersection.
