Office of Homeless Solutions Activates Temporary Inclement Weather Shelter

The Office of Homeless Solutions (OHS) will activate the Temporary Inclement Weather Shelter (TIWS) on Wednesday, February 12, 2025. In accordance with Chapter 45 of the City Code, the shelter will remain operational until overnight temperatures are forecasted to exceed freezing.

The primary location for the TIWS site is:

  • Austin Street Center, 2929 Hickory Street, Dallas, TX, 75226.

Austin Street Center will manage the site as the City’s external partner, executing TIWS activities and providing enhanced services. Intake hours will begin at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, February 12.

“As we navigate the complexities of homelessness in our city, I want to express my gratitude for the support of our partners like Austin Street Center,” said Christine Crossley, Director of the Office of Homeless Solutions. “The Temporary Inclement Weather Shelter reflects our commitment to ensuring everyone has access to a warm and safe place during these challenging times.”

In addition to providing shelter, the TIWS will also connect guests with vital resources and support services. Partners will be on hand to assist individuals in accessing essential services designed to help them transition to more stable living conditions.

“This activation is not just about providing temporary shelter; it’s an invaluable opportunity to connect with individuals experiencing homelessness and offer them essential services,” said Daniel Roby, CEO of Austin Street Center. “By collaborating with the City of Dallas and other partners, we are not only addressing immediate needs but also paving the way for transformative support that can change lives for the better. Our goal is to ensure that everyone who seeks help finds not just warmth, but also a pathway to comprehensive care and resources.”

Additionally, individuals experiencing homelessness are encouraged to seek shelter at any of the City’s existing overnight shelter provider locations. While seeking warm shelter is recommended, some individuals may decline assistance. To aid in their survival, cold weather packs will be available at recreational centers across the City and in bulk from OHS via [email protected] (mailto:[email protected]).
