Dallas Public Library is now on wheels

A unique project is bringing Dallas Public Library services to public spaces – by bicycle.

The BookBike is a mobile library on a bicycle trailer. Hub Bicycle Company in Deep Ellum raised the money for the custom-built the trailer which is attached to a bicycle and pedaled around Dallas by Library staff. It carries about 100 books and can also carry a mobile hotspot and mobile tools like laptops and tablets.

“We are grateful to the community and Hub Bicycle Company for making this happen,” said Library Associate Mark Draz. “The BookBike is a useful tool to help us get out and talk to people about what the library can help them achieve.”

The BookBike made its first appearance at the Farmers Market April 1 and will also appear at the Earth Day celebration at Fair Park and the Dallas Book Festival.
