Dallas Public Library 7th floor reopening Saturday

An interactive touch screen video wall and an updated O’Hara Hall with state-of-the-art audio and visual technology are among the new features of the Central Library’s newly renovated 7th floor. The public is invited to the grand reopening of the 40,000 square-foot floor at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at 1515 Young St.

The 7th floor houses the library’s Dallas History & Archives division which collects, preserves and showcases the diverse history of Dallas, the surrounding area and the state of Texas; and a Fine and Rare Book collection. Two permanent exhibits, Shakespeare’s First Folio printed in 1623 and one of only 26 known copies of the Declaration of Independence will also reopen.

“Our customers have been very patient with us while we renovated this floor but I know they are going to be incredibly pleased with the aesthetics, light and accessibility of information on this floor,” Director of Libraries Jo Giudice says. “The staff are excited to have the full collection available again for research and are eager to get back to work helping our customers.”

Other new features on the 7th floor will be additional meeting spaces with enhanced technology and research areas, as well as a new gallery and exhibit cases and rare items that have been tucked away in the Dallas Public Library vault.
