Dallas Fire-Rescue heroes receive Star of Texas Award

Two members from the Dallas Fire-Rescue Department (DFR), Fire Rescue Officers, Jeffrey Patterson and John Sullivan, were presented with the Star of Texas Award on September 10 by Texas Governor Greg Abbott. The ceremony took place in the Texas House of Representatives Chamber at the Texas State Capitol. Members from both firefighters’ families, as well as key members from DFR, attended in support. The Star of Texas Award was created by the Texas Legislature to honor peace officers, firefighters and EMT’s who were killed, or sustained serious injury, in the line of duty.

Officer Patterson suffered critical burn injuries, over a large percentage of his body, while fighting a house fire in May 2014. Officer Sullivan, while working as a Kaufman County Deputy Constable, suffered critical injuries after being involved in an on-duty accident in May 2013.
