Dallas Animal Services’ dog kennels are at their highest levels in years, and the city needs the public’s help with adoptions and fosters. At its highest point on Sunday, there were 674 dogs in 388 kennels. Among the dogs currently in care are 67 nursing puppies with their mothers.
Adopting or fostering a dog is a meaningful way for residents to take immediate action to keep animals safe and prevent the spread of disease, which can happen when kennels are overfilled. “Our team is doing everything we can to manage the number of dogs in our care, but we can’t create space without the community. Every adoption or foster placement makes an immediate difference—not just for that dog, but for the next one who needs our help,” said Victoria Chittam Bennett, Assistant Director.
Adoptable dogs can be found on Dallas Animal Services’ website, http://www.bedallas90.org.
