City workers pull fellow employee from White Rock Creek

Two quick-thinking City employees came to the rescue of a co-worker Tuesday afternoon after the man’s city truck plunged into White Rock Creek.

Raul Alamillo, Jr. and Brent English were on their way to a job site when they noticed the submerged truck. When they saw the vehicle’s brake lights flashing, both realized someone was still in the truck.

Braving the cold water, Alamillo and English jumped in to save the man, at that point submerged up to his shoulders. Although conscious, he was unable to move. The two broke into the truck, quickly unclicked the seat belt and pulled the man out, assisted by other City employees who had arrived on the scene.

Alamillo and English say they didn’t know they were saving a fellow employee until they approached the truck, and recognized the man. “It was just common sense,” Alamillo said. “I knew someone needed our help so I had to stop. It didn’t matter if it was another City employee or a citizen,” he said.
“These two City of Dallas employees went above and beyond their regular call of duty,” said Dallas City Manager A.C. Gonzalez. “They are heroes and deserve to be commended for saving their co-worker’s life.”

The driver of the truck, who had apparently suffered a medical emergency and lost control of his truck, was taken to a hospital and is expected to recover.
