City to consolidate all evacuees at Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center Shelter

The City of Dallas will consolidate the Walnut Hill and Samuell Grand Shelters into the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Shelter later this evening.

Tomorrow through Thursday, more than 1,000 Texas residents temporarily housed in Alexandria and Shreveport, LA are expected to arrive at the shelter by bus. These new evacuees will bring the mega shelter close to capacity. The current count is 2,967 guests in the Convention Center and 140 at Samuell Grand Recreation Center.

The City of Dallas thanks everyone for their generosity. The greatest need now is for monetary donations to the Mayor’s Disaster Relief Fund. Donations to the fund will provide grants to individuals and families for basic housing assistance and necessities. Donations can be taken to the Trusted World location on Kingsley Road in Garland; visit www.dallashelpforharvey.net for current information on donations and volunteering.
