City announces holiday schedule changes for trash collection, facility hours

Residents receiving Friday garbage and recycling service will need to roll their carts out two days early.

Only Friday customers will be impacted by the holiday service schedule change. Friday customers should now place their garbage and recycling carts out on Wednesday, Dec. 23 and Wednesday, Dec. 30 instead of their usual Friday collection days.

“The last time this schedule was in place during a holiday was in 2009,” said Sanitation Services Coordinator Murray Myers. “We want to ensure that the public is aware of the changes so they don’t have their roll carts left on the curb for an extended period of time.”

No garbage, recycling or brush/bulk trash collections will take place on Christmas Day, Dec. 25 or New Year’s Day, Jan.1 2016. Transfer Stations, McCommas Bluff Landfill and Sanitation Administrative Offices will be closed on Christmas and New Year’s.

Sanitation Services is also partnering with Home Depot to accept and recycle Christmas trees. Residents can drop off Christmas trees at their neighborhood Home Depot after removing all tinsel, ornaments, lights, nails and stand.
