Dallas Youth Commission shaping the next generation of leaders

To ensure that Dallas youth have a voice in issues facing our city, the Dallas City Council approved reinstatement of the Youth Commission. Youth Commissioners will help identify programs and services needed in the community and promote civic engagement among youth.

The City Council will play a vital role in the Commission by nominating potential commissioners and appointing a vice-chair. Councilmember Tiffinni Young, a member of the original Youth Commission, founded in 1994, will be the Council Liaison.

Members of the Youth Commission will learn how to facilitate meetings, organize community projects, give public presentations and learn the intricacies of the public budgeting process. The goal is to equip the members with the tools necessary to become leaders in the community.
