WIC Baby Café recognized

The International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners™ (IBLCE) and International Lactation Consultant Association™ (ILCA) have recognized the Community Baby Café and Dallas Lactation Care Center for excellence in lactation care.

Breastfeeding rates in the City of Dallas WIC Program are increasing, prompting a need for more trained professionals. IBCLCs in the Lactation Care Center and Community Baby Café focus on preventive care, so they are available during pregnancy to assess the mother and provide information on how to successfully initiate breastfeeding.

Christine Wiseman and Sandra Rodriguez are two of the health care professionals who provide this clinical help, which often makes the difference between success and failure for women in terms of achieving their breastfeeding goals. The Lactation Care Center and Community Baby Café have been instrumental in the Dallas community, helping new mothers get off to a good start with breastfeeding and providing the support needed for them to reach their breastfeeding goals.

The IBCLC Care Award recognizes staffing professionals who hold the prestigious International Board Certified Lactation Consultant® certification (IBCLC) and for providing a lactation program two to five days a week for breastfeeding families. In addition, the agencies demonstrated that they have provided recent breastfeeding training for medical staff that cares for new families, and recently completed activities that help protect, promote, and support breastfeeding in the community.
“Agencies that receive the IBCLC Care Award are to be commended for improving maternal and child health by making breastfeeding a priority and for taking steps to improve breastfeeding support,” said IBLCE Chair Rachelle Lessen.
