City of Dallas Office of Emergency Management receives national recognition

DALLAS – The City of Dallas Office of Emergency Management (OEM) has been granted a national accreditation through the Emergency Management Accreditation Program (EMAP). This accreditation meets a strict standard for Emergency Management excellence and was previously awarded to the City in 2015.

“The Office of Emergency Management is honored to receive our continued accreditation. This represents many hours of hard work from City of Dallas employees across multiple departments and demonstrates our commitment to being a prepared Dallas,” Director of the Office of Emergency Management Rocky Vaz said.

EMAP is a wide-ranging and rigorous program that evaluates Emergency Management programs on a federal, state, local, and institutional scale. OEM documented compliance with 66 industry-recognized standards that were peer-reviewed by an assessment team of EMAP trained assessors. Accreditation recognizes the ability of programs to bring together personnel, resources and communications from various agencies and organizations in preparation for and in response to any disaster.

“Congratulations to those Programs that have maintained their accredited status as well as those who have joined the elite leaders in emergency management having earned accreditation through the Emergency Management Accreditation Program. Through their commitment and leadership, they have proven to their communities and stakeholders that their Programs are sustainable and that they continue to focus on their communities’ best interests,” stated Nick Crossley, Director of Hamilton County Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency and the EMAP Commission Chair.

The City of Dallas was one of only seven to receive the accreditation this year. EMAP will provide a plaque recognizing the City of Dallas’ accredited status in the coming weeks.
