Among the stories featured on this week’s Your City:

  • The new fiscal year 2016-2017 budget has passed. Highlights from the new budget include: a 1.45¢ decrease in the tax rate, funding for 449 police officers, $2.7 million dollars for Dallas Animal Services to pick up loose dogs, spay/neuter, microchip and vaccinate.

  • Dallas Police Department Deputy Chief Robert Sherwin recently briefed the Quality of Life and Environment Committee on implementation of the Boston Consulting Group recommendations on loose dogs. They plan to pick up nearly 7,000 more loose dogs, increase live releases by nearly 7,000, and fund and implement 46,000 free spay/neuter surgeries over the next three years.
  • The State Fair of Texas is now open! Dallas Parks and Recreation has been working for the past several months to help make it a success.
