Residents asked to “cease the grease” during the holidays

The Office of Environmental Quality encourages Dallas residents to “cease the grease” during the holidays and recycle fats oils and grease at any of the City’s drop-off locations. The recycled fats and oils are turned into biogas for energy production at the Southside Wastewater Treatment Plant and into biodiesel used to fuel Dallas County school buses.

Here are some tips for collecting and disposing of your used cooking oil, grease and fats:

● After cooling, put used cooking oil into a rigid plastic container with a threaded lid that allows for easy pouring. Tightly secure the lid, put the container in a plastic bag and tie at the top, or use a secondary container such as a cardboard box.
● Transfer grease into a container with a lid, such as an old coffee can.
● Put leftovers and fats in the garbage.
