On the Agenda: Council will consider shopping cart enforcement ordinance

The Dallas City Council will consider an ordinance regulating shopping carts in the city.

At their June 22 meeting, the Council will consider an ordinance drafted in response to the Committee’s vote, amending Section 7A-2 of the current ordinance by adding a shopping cart definition entitled “City Removal of Shopping Cart from Public Place” Section 7A-3.1.

At an April 11 briefing, the Quality of Life and Environment Committee moved to recommend to full council a plan that would direct staff to immediately sweep, collect, and destroy carts found in the right-of-way or other undesignated locations. The Committee also asked that staff look into options for cost recovery for the plan and return to the Quality of Life and Environment Committee.
