Officers killed during July 7 ambush to be honored at Police Memorial Ceremony

The names of the officers killed during the July 7, 2016 ambush will be honored during the Police Memorial Ceremony. This ceremony preserves the memories of the 84 officers who laid down their lives for the citizens of Dallas. It also pays respect to the families who gave so much. Their memories and sacrifices will never be forgotten.

The Police Memorial Ceremony can be watched live on this stream once it begins around noon: http://www.dallascitynews.net/watch-live

This year’s Police Memorial Ceremony marks the 16th anniversary at the Dallas Police Memorial site. The Dallas Police Memorial wall is a tribute to honor the fallen officers of the Dallas Police Department who gave the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. This landmark was commissioned by the Dallas Police Foundation in May of 2001.

The memorial sits adjacent to City Hall in downtown Dallas.  The upper portion of the structure was designed to allow sunlight to stream through the steel plates on the underside, which bear the badge numbers of the fallen officers.  This allows the sun to shine through and project them onto the paving below.
