Neighborhoods coming together through beautification efforts

Saturdays are typically spent relaxing, but on Saturday, May 18, over 75 groups plan to participate in a city-wide cleanup – Operation Beautification (OPB).

Twice a year, the City of Dallas-Planning & Urban Design department encourages and equips residents to organize successful community cleanups. During the Fall 2018 OPB, Jason Medina led 9 volunteers from the Southern Hills Neighborhood Association in a clean up effort in his neighborhood. After neighbors saw the beautification happen first hand, the number of volunteers has doubled to 18 for this Spring’s OBP event.

“Operation Beautification put us in touch with neighbors with a shared passion to see the neighborhood improve,” said Jason Medina.

Registration is free and the City will coordinate with participating groups to provide trash bags, garden gloves, safety vest on a first come first serve basis along with free out-of-schedule trash collection pickup times and locations. Group registration is required.

Registering to participate only takes 3 steps:

  1. Select an area you want to clean
  2. Register before May 14 by calling 311, using 311’s OurDallas app or visiting visit bit.ly/DALLASOPB
  3. Grab your friends on May 18 and head out to beautify your neighborhood
