Housing Committee to hear briefing on Emergency Solutions Grant

The City’s Housing Committee will hear details on Feb. 6 about the Housing and Urban Development Emergency Solutions grant that could be used to help homeless individuals and families in Dallas.

Services provided by the grant are meant to increase the overall quality of emergency shelters through better operation and increasing necessary service to homeless individuals within the shelters, as well as enhancing re-housing and prevention programs.

The 2016-2017 grant budget is aims to increase the number of shelters by specifically budgeting two additional shelters, the Austin Street Shelter and the Wilkinson Center for Rapid Rehousing. From 2015-2016 more than 3,800 individuals stayed multiple nights in homeless facilities. This number does not include individuals who only used the day services of these programs.
