Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas working to close the STEM gap

The Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas (GSNETX) wants you to know that in 2017, they are more than cookies, camps and crafts.

The organization is also working hard to help close the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) STEM gap by transforming their South Dallas Camp, Whispering Cedars into the STEM Center of Excellence. The goal is to help more girls become STEM professionals when they reach adulthood; careers in which women are underrepresented.

The development of this center will include partnering with nonprofits such as the Perot Museum and Dallas Arboretum, STEM-based companies, and other private organizations.

In the City of Dallas, GSNETX envisions the STEM Center of Excellence playing an integral role for STEM education for the Dallas Independent School District primarily through field trips and the fulfillment of a deeper understanding of the STEM curriculum for students.
