Fill the Boot campaign hits home for Dallas fire fighters

You may have seen them standing on the side of the road with boots in hand rallying support for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). This year our Dallas fire fighters raised about $430,000 in their Fill the Boot initiative. Every dollar of that money goes to MDA.

Many of our fire fighters have loved ones impacted by this disease and just a few months ago, our Dallas Fire-Rescue family lost one of their own.

“Tracy Beard was diagnosed with ALS. Tracy was a long-time member of the fire department. He was a beloved mentor and friend to hundreds of Dallas fire fighters. Tracy valiantly fought the disease for a few years and this past December he passed away from ALS,” President of the Dallas Fire Fighters Association Jim McDade says.

This year the fire station to raise the most money for MDA will be awarded the Tracy Beard trophy.  The winning station who will host the trophy for the next year is Station 43. The trophy is inscribed with its namesake’s motto “Leave it better that you found it.”
