DWU urges you to Defend Your Drains

Defend Your Drains is a new DWU education and outreach that encourages residents to properly dispose of items harmful to both homeowner’s plumbing and the city’s wastewater treatment system. From wipes to dental floss, medicines to cleaning products, it’s imperative to know the right way to get rid of products that don’t belong in the drain.

Failure to follow this guidance can cost you time, stress and drain your wallet.

DYD_2767_305_710“Just because the item says it is flushable, does not mean it really is,” said DWU Project Coordinator Yvonne Dupre. “Items that don’t break down like paper towels or feminine hygiene products can clog your pipes resulting in backups and expensive repairs.”
