“Don’t wait, check the date” is theme of Fire Prevention Week

Do you know how old your smoke detector is?  Dallas Fire-Rescue (DFR) reminds residents that smoke detectors should be replaced every 10 years, so be sure to “check the date” on your smoke detector.

During Fire Prevention Week (Oct. 9 to 15), DFR is emphasizing the importance of smoke alarms and of making sure they are working properly. To find out how old your smoke detector is, check the date of manufacture on the back or side of the alarm.

If you’re a homeowner in Dallas and need new smoke alarms, call 311 and DFR will install them free of charge. DFR officers can also provide information and advice on exit drills and potential fire hazards in your home. For more information on DFR Education programs click here. To schedule a program for your group call (214)670-4633 or email [email protected].
