Data challenge launched for local youth

The Office of Innovation has launched a student data challenge in partnership with Dallas County, PCCI, UTD, DISD and others to help young people assess and analyze COVID-19 data. The COVID-19 Data Challenge is open to students who live in the Dallas – Fort Worth area in grades 6 through 12.

Students selected for the challenge will work on a data project using real COVID-19 data for Dallas County cases. Students will be able to flex their math, data, and coding skills all while learning how COVID-19 is affecting their community. Almost 3,000 young people under the age of 18 have been diagnosed with COVID-19 since July 1 in Dallas County.

The deadline to join the challenge is September 10 and the challenge will run from September 14 through September 25. Winners will be announced on October 1.

Adults who want to serve as mentors and judges may also complete the application.
