Dallas Public Library makes prom dreams reality with free formal wear

Dallas Public Library’s annual prom wear giveaway opens March 7 and this year high school students have five opportunities to find the perfect gown or formal wear. Hundreds of gowns in various sizes and styles will be available from the library’s Fairy Tale Closet, as well as shoes, accessories and a few suits and jackets for those who forgo the traditional gown. The Fairy Tale Closet is open to girls, boys and non-binary students. The selection of suits is limited.

“Every year we are blown away by the Dallas community’s generosity toward this effort,” said Communications & Youth Services Administrator Melissa Dease. “We have always wanted to be able to serve more teens and this year our volunteers are making it happen.”

Reservations can be made at http://dallaslibrary2.org/teen/fairytalecloset.php. Walk-ins are welcome.

The Fairy Tale Closet began in 2014 and is restocked each year with donations from hundreds of individuals and organizations, including bridesmaids shops, Neiman Marcus, Sam Moon, women’s groups and other public libraries.
