Council considers proposal to privatize Fair Park

The Dallas City Council is considering a proposal that would hand over operation of Fair Park to the non-profit Fair Park Texas Foundation, Inc. The Foundation would be governed by a nine-member Board of Directors with at least one member from the Fair Park community.

The public private partnership would increase staffing in marketing, events and programming, development and community outreach, add maintenance staff and engage administrative services such as human resources, legal, accounting, communications and information technologies. The City would pay an annual management fee to the Foundation to fully support Fair Park as a public park, maintaining and managing the grounds and facilities for year-round visitors.

Subject to City Council approval, the City will ask voters to authorize bond funds for Fair Park capital bond projects in the next two upcoming bond programs.
