Flooding Update

Despite the sunshine in Dallas, parts of the City were still facing flooding. About 18-inches of rain has poured down in Dallas this May – making it the wettest May in our history. As of Monday morning, all entryways into the area west of Stemmons Freeway (I-35 E), north of Northwest Highway and east of Luna Road and south of Royal Lane are affected by the flooding. This is a commercial area – not residential. The City’s Office of Emergency Management, OEM, issued a reverse 911 call to more than 3,000 landlines in that area. Drivers and business owners have been told to avoid the area for their personal safety.

There have been uncontrolled spills from Lakes Ray Roberts, Lewisville and Grapevine that have led to localized flooding along the Elm Fork Trinity River in Dallas. Local flooding is the result of rain in the upper basins of the Trinity over the last several days which have filled the reservoirs upstream of Dallas, exceeding capacity and overflowing area lakes.

There are have 21 road closures throughout the city. Please do not ignore warning sounds or barricades.
