City Council votes to repeal single-use bag ordinance

June 3, 2015: The Dallas City Council today voted to repeal Chapter 9C of the Dallas City Code (commonly known as the carryout bag ordinance).

Effective immediately, the City will no longer enforce this ordinance, which required businesses to register with the City to provide single use bags, specified the types and specifications of bags that may be used, authorized a five-cent environmental fee for single-use carryout bags to customers, and specified signage requirements in parking lots and/or points of sale.

The City will immediately begin notifying business establishments about the repeal of the ordinance.
