Park and Recreation to host 2017 Dallas Senior Games Feb. 22

Dallas Park and Recreation will host the 2017 Dallas Senior Games at Fair Park. Budget constraints caused the program to be discontinued in 2009. It was restored last year with formation of the department’s new Senior Program Division.

Olympics-style fitness and leisure competition will be held Feb. 22-28 with cycling competition to be held March 4-5. Participants must be at least 50 years old and will compete in 12 competitive sports and more than 32 different events including cycling, swimming, basketball, tennis, golf, track, pickle ball and more. Winning participants will have an opportunity to qualify to participate in the state competition in San Antonio and national competition in Birmingham, AL.

“The goal of the Senior Program Division is to restore programs and senior participation throughout our 42 recreation centers,” said Parks Department Assistant Director Crystal R. Ross. “Bringing back the Senior Games was another big priority for the Senior Program Division and we are all very pleased to be hosting it once again.”
