The Dallas Police Department Communications/911 center has received numerous reports from citizens getting phone calls by individual(s) claiming to be 911 operators. The callers are attempting to verify their immigration status by requesting their name, social security number, and proof of residency.

All citizens should be aware that these calls are a scam. Dallas Police Department 911 Operators do not call or check for immigration statuses.

If you have received a call like this and provided your social security number, the Dallas Police Department would recommend you take the following steps to protect your identity:

  • Monitor your credit report
  • Fraud alerts on each of the three credit bureaus – Trans Union, Equifax, and Experian
  • Report the incident to Idenitytheft.com
